Cancer of Fear

There are plenty of arguments against health care reform that center around an opposition to "growing government." The argument is that government should not be in control of too much because they will then be able to control our lives and take away our freedom. Lets say that is a completely plausible and reasonable concern (I know some think it is and some do not). Of course any rational person arguing this realizes that the government funds and controls a certain portion of modern life. The question then, is, where do you draw the line?

For example, should the federal government fund research for drugs that help patients? It seems that answering yes to this question would be advocating for more "big government." And of course big government steps on the toes of capitalism. But again, where is the line drawn?

All right maybe that was a cheap shot just to have Glenn Beck talk down on capitalism in the face of health needs(1:45). But this appears to be something that people could rally behind. Everyone hates cancer, right?

Radical Right Wing Terrorist or Obama Youth Brainwashed Army

I was minding my own business waving a confederate flag with the words "Git-R-Done" written over top next to a couple pictures of Obama and a "i <3 playboy" poster, when what should I see but ones if not tens of these right wing terrorists walking around packing SERIOUS HEAT. I was disappointed to say the least because I felt that I, as a true patriot, was falling short of my civil duty to bring loaded weapons to large gatherings of people (although there wasn't beer involved so I don't feel that bad).

At first I thought they were like-minded, outraged, furious, appalled, angry, maybe-not-racist-but-kind-of-seeming-like-they-are, distrusters of government of any kind REAL Americans like me. But then i realized what they really were; OHITLER'S YOUTH!! There were swarms of these young militant looking groups all over the place! They kept falling into lines and screaming at the top of their lungs and running around aiming these guns at people and say POW! POW! It was like a war zone! Luckily I managed to escape unharmed but before I did, I managed to snap a couple shots of one of these guys walking around. And I mean really these guns were huge and everywhere. It really makes me weep for what this great nation of ours has become.

I apologize for the quality of my pictures. I accidentally cracked the viewer for my camera when I was pounding a table during a speech for dramatic outraged effect.

Change of plans

There is a lot of talk about conspiracy of government lately. Everything from death panels to 9/11, from the birther's to the New World Order. But could it be that this all a cover-up for some larger conspiracy yet undiscovered. Some plan so devious and far-reaching that no one has grasped at what floats inches from their nose.

There is a conspiracy of stupid. The scheme of some insecure MAN in some hidden place where he will never be found, most likely Delaware, he seeks to bring us all down to his level of stupidity. And he's winning the war. Flagpole sitta was wrong... stupid people aren't breeding, they're being MADE. Through the poison put in our water, airwaves, brainwaves, and any other forms of liquid we consume.

This is a call for Stupidity Transparency, a Committee of Accountability for Stupidity, a National Alliance for the Ethical Reformation of Deeeeuerrrrrrrrr.

and that's the theme of this blog from now on.

minority rule

I received a few e-mails from some of my relatives concerning University of Maryland's "ban" of prayer during graduations and commencements. The e-mail in a nutshell said everyone sneezed so someone could say "god bless you."

here they are:

"You know! I still haven't met anyone who will admit they voted for the guy
in office of the President or any congress person (god, political,
correctness) congressman that is causing this mess... but glad there are
concerned voters out who will do something next election; assuming the
current policy makers don’t change the law to allow them to stay in office
forever - how blind can we get!!!!!

----

P.S. Don’t save cash, it won't be worth much when the debt comes due."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"
I hope that it truly happened at U of MD!! I hope that this will become a
tradition and that someone in the government has enough _____ (and if a
woman in the government takes this on she doesn't have to worry about _____)
to believe in what this country was based on and that God and Government
don't cross. Let those of us who believe in God, express it and don't make
the majority give way to the minority.

I am so disgusted with our government and I am sure that the founding
fathers are turning in their graves seeing where our "Government Officials"
have taken this country over the past 50 years!

OK I will get off my soap box now, but at least you know that I am very
unhappy with the path the government is going. Personally I think we need
to abolish the entire system and start all over again!!

---

PS: I know that I am going to be sorry that I pushed that SEND button, BUT
I gotta say what I believe."

There's been a lot on fox news and 630am/540am about this idea of the "radical minority" pushing through agendas that the majority of Americans don't agree with.

I'm not exactly sure what this is even referring to. I can understand that the amount of government money being pumped into the system if worrisome. I can understand that people THINK they're going to have to pay a ton of taxes and that maybe their lives will become less filled with material things. I can even understand the ideas that this country was "founded" on religious ideas so they think they should remain in place.

BUT.

What has really changed in this country that such a slap in the face to how this country has been run in the past 100 years besides the money being doled out? I've come up with only a few answers to this question.

1) people think that we are becoming a socialist country (take from the rich give to the "losers")
2) people think that the country is going to hell because of a lack of morality (see my essay on conservative pornography)
3) people think that their freedom is in danger of extinction.

--
1) Ok so there's a ton of money flying around and looming tax raises in the future for wealthy Americans. I completely understand the aversion to this as a wealthy American. But the idea that this country is going to suddenly (or slowly) become a strictly socialistic nation is silly. As the population and standard of living in this country rises, so do social needs. There's a longer life expectancy than when the founding father's were here, there's more understanding, treatment and needs of people with diseases and mental issues. These all require socialism in some way. To get services for a child with autism to a family who can not afford the drastically expensive schools, they need government aid in the form of money to pay people life myself who go into their home everyday and try to do what I can to make that child a productive and contributing member of society. The goal of those services, generally speaking, is to have that child function as a member of the American workforce.

But I'm getting off-track. The point is American Socialism isn't this awful thing that's going to ruin everyone's lives. That's a fully socialist structure or something like fascism which seeks to control everything and kill anyone who disagrees. This just isn't going to happen. The amount of technology at our disposal wouldn't allow something like that to happen without it being known and opposed. Nor do I think most people in favor of social programs even Want a strictly socialist structure.

Socialism and Capitalism can exist together in certain ways and that's really what's been going on in this country. Neither is perfect so why not let them work together to try and improve the failings of the other.

2) I'm skipping this because I addressed it already in the other post

3) I keep hearing all of this talk about the religious right being under attack. That they aren't allowed to have their faith anywhere. They sound a lot like smokers complaining about not being able to smoke in restaurants. If you want to believe in God or the Easter Bunny that's your Freedom. But don't try to act as if you are being persecuted by not being able to force your religion on others. Especially when the freedoms of other people are being taken away by religious forces.

I don't agree with everything this guy says, but i do on this issue

Drug Policy

I've been applying to pretty much every job that has me writing or editing in some way. I applied to a drug reform non-profit today which had me thinking about where I stand on this issue. There seems to be a lot of stupidity, as there always is, on either side of the argument. example A:

you're seriously going to use 50 cent as the background music?

This however is pretty awesome

If there is some plausible way to curtail smokers from driving, it seems totally plausible to legalize and regulate the plant. This is my biggest problem with being a supporter of legalization, because there's already such a problem with drunk drivers this would probably just add to the problem. But then again if you enact some strict no tolerance policy there might be a decline in the amount of cases.

Then again maybe they should outlaw alcohol and make liquid marijuana. Actually that sounds kind of gross. But animal might like it
